The Minnesota Artists Exhibition Program (MAEP) is a juried exhibition opportunity for mid-career artists who live and work in the state of Minnesota. It is facilitated by the Minneapolis Institute of Art. It was founded in 1975 as a year-long partnership between the museum and artists—an agreement that has become a unique, ongoing relationship. The MAEP presents a diverse array of art and artists who work across the state within the context of a comprehensive art museum---inserting the state's artists into a broader discourse about history and culture.

Unlike other curatorial programs in the US, the MAEP selects applications by jury. Applications are selected by the MAEP Artist Panel, a panel of seven elected artists who live and work in the state. For more information on the Panel, visit: artsmia.org/maep

With more opportunities to exhibit than ever before, the MAEP Artist Panel and Mia seek to support mid-career artists through this opportunity. Mid-career artists are defined as having an established artistic practice but do not have an extensive history of exhibitions organized by museums. Artists do not have to have a degree, be represented by a gallery, or had a solo exhibition prior to application.

Degree-seeking students, Mia staff, and artists under the age of 18 are ineligible to apply.

The MAEP Artist Panel selects one application per open call. Artists have approximately 10 months from acceptance to realize their proposal for the 2,500 sq ft space. Selected proposals will receive an $8,000 honorarium and up to $5,500 for supplies, materials, framing, and transportation costs. The MAEP strongly encourages selected artists to obtain additional funding as needed.

To be considered, apply via the link below. Mia cannot accept applications by mail or email.

The MAEP is a highly competitive program with less than 1% of all applications accepted. Due to the nature of the program, Mia cannot carry over unaccepted proposals. However, the MAEP Artist Panel encourages artists to re-apply to the program. Applicants are encouraged to seek constructive feedback after notifications are sent. Feedback is available by appointment or email.

Support for MAEP is provided by RBC Wealth Management.
